Our clients bought a classic older home near town that had an old carriage house on the property that had been badly renovated by the previous owners. They asked us to redesign and fully renovate the home and provide all new windows, siding and roof shingles with an added entertainment porch. The interior with all new modern updates included a new open floor plan with a new kitchenette within a lounge space, mudroom with cabana bathroom, one bedroom on the first floor and two upstairs with a hall bathroom. Large multi-slide glass doors open from the lounge to the new porch with motorized insect screens, a grill area, dining and seating area with a gas fired fire pit cocktail table.
Since the lounge was on the north side of the house, we needed to bring in as much sunlight as possible. The clients asked us to design a large skylight in the ceiling. We chose a pyramidal shape and placed it in the middle of the space to bring in light all day long. Motorized solar shades can close down the amount of sunlight when it gets too bright!
The clients wanted a very simple palette of whites, creams and soft grays with natural white oak details. The inside and outside corners of all walls and ceilings were rounded slightly. A sueded paint finish added subtle soft texture to the walls. The floors on the first floor were designed using large porcelain tile which seamlessly extended out into the new porch. Great indoor/outdoor use!
Finishing touches are still ongoing so come back and look for final photos in a few more weeks.
