Past clients of ours bought a house in Greenwich at the beginning of the Pandemic. The landscaping and outdoor entertaining areas needed a lot of attention. In addition, our clients wanted a pool house to compliment the pool. We took our cues from the main house using the same white painted brick and clapboard materials and gabled slate roof and standing seam copper roofs. We contemporized the design dramatically creating large expanses of glass with open interiors.
Our pool house design was a simple one; a bar with tall and wide retractable glass and metal doors on both long sides with brick end walls up to the roof. In the far end’s wall we installed a see-through gas fireplace serving to unit the outdoor porch and interior lounge area. The ceiling was framed with white oak scissor trusses against a white oak stained gabled ceiling.
Motorized retractable shades were built in above the doors.
At the fireplace end, is an open porch with retractable hidden screen doors. At the dining table, one can view an intimate garden. At the other end of the pool house is a cabana bathroom with vanity and separate toilet and shower behind opaque white glass doors that create different levels of privacy. A changing room with slatted bench and full height storage for towels, slide out hamper and other storage completes this space. From inside the cabana, one can exit via 2 doors that lead out to a path to the outdoor shower. This outdoor shower is built of mahogany vertical slats and stainless steel horizontals that create a curve to resemble a seashell.
